Reflective Essay

This semester in English Composition class, I learned a lot about Rhetorical Devices. One of the most important things I learned was the importance of critically analyzing and evaluating information. In today’s world, it is easy to be bombarded with a constant stream of information from various sources, and it can be challenging to determine what is accurate and relevant. Our class emphasized the importance of carefully considering the credibility of sources and thinking critically about the arguments being presented. We were specifically given the tools to not only analyze the information or argument but also to formulate arguments of our own.

I also learned the value of effective communication and collaboration. Working on the essays by myself, made me realize how great if other students were able to help me grow and I would’ve learn from the perspectives of my classmates. I think these skills would’ve been invaluable in my future studies and career.

One thing I want to learn more about is the application of rhetoric and rhetorical devices, the concepts we studied in our class to real-world problems. While we covered how it was used in social movements, I would like to have a better understanding of how these ideas can be put into practice to address real-world issues like speeches in different fields.

Rhetorical devices are techniques that writers and speakers use to persuade or influence their audience. These devices can be applied in a variety of contexts in the real world, including in written and oral communication, marketing and advertising, and public speaking.

I learned one way rhetorical devices can be applied in the real world is through the use of persuasive language in writing. For example, a writer might use rhetorical questions, repetition, or appeals to emotion to convince their audience to take a certain action or believe a certain idea.

In marketing and advertising, rhetorical devices can be used to make a product or service more appealing to potential customers. For example, a company might use rhetorical questions or appeals to emotion to create a sense of urgency or to appeal to the values and beliefs of its target audience.

In terms of skills, I would like to further develop my research and writing abilities. Conducting thorough and thoughtful research is essential for any field, and being able to effectively communicate my findings through writing will be crucial for my future studies and career. Especially applying the newfound tools will be pertinent to my future studies.

Overall, this semester has been a valuable learning experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue learning and growing as a student. I look forward to applying what I have learned in my future classes and continuing to develop my skills and knowledge.
